The Express faced the Admirals for the first time in history, and lost the first meeting 8-6. Up by two goals at the half, the Admirals would tack on two more goals early in the second period. Matt Baronak would provide a tally off a Mark Abo feed that showed some life left in the Express, however, that was quickly answered by the Admirals just shy of the midway point of the second period. A late period surge by the Express would put them back to within 2, but an empty net tally by the Admirals would stretch the lead back to 3. A never give up attitude by the Express netted another goal with 8 seconds left, however, time had run out on the Express to mount another comeback effort.
